Epsom Public Library Trustees' Meeting
February 11, 2008

Attendees: Cherylann Arvanitis, Treasurer; Nancy Claris, Library Director; Valerie Long, Chair; Bobby Mongeon, Secretary

Secretary’s report: accepted as read

Treasurer’s report: not available

Correspondence:

A letter was received regarding the reading of Marcia Winslow’s will.

Old Business

  • The meeting room policy will remain the same. There was some discussion about allowing "for profit" organizations to meet in the Library for a fee but the Trustees decided to retain the current policy, which is on file at the Library. Copies of the new employee handbook were given to each Trustee. A master copy will be kept in the Library.
  • At 5:45 p.m. Wayne Preve, the Epsom Chief of Police, met with the Trustees and Library Director to discuss safety issues. He assured the Trustees that, depending on the location of the officer on duty, the police would respond to an emergency within 5 minutes. He suggested the library purchase a telephone with an emergency dialing button. He will look into the cost and feasibility of a panic button.
  • A new photography class will be planned with the possibility of a computer class to be held at a future date. A mother’s book discussion group is being established.
  • The volunteer recognition event is rescheduled to April 4, 2008. Plans for the event will be made at the March Trustees’ meeting.
  • Valerie Long reported on her progress with the landscaping project. A landscaper, recommended by UNH, is working on a plan for the library that will incorporate educational plants.

New Business

  • Valerie suggested the use of a planning process to help the Trustees plan for future needs of the library. Perhaps the establishment of a Library Foundation to look into the latest trends in library science and possible sources of funding would be a useful addition to our library.

Our next meeting will be March 10, 2008 at 5 p.m. at the Epsom Public Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Bobby Mongeon, Secretary
