GROWING UP A COUNTRY BOY On Wednesday, May 29 Buddy Fife of Deerfield will discuss his book Growing Up a Country Boy. Lywood “Buddy” Fife was born in Deerfield, New Hampshire in 1937. Times were different then as Buddy tells you in his book. Life was much simpler; you worked hard, you ate well, you played after you chores were done. Buddy shares many great childhood memories and experiences from his life as well as many joys and huge heartaches from his adult life. He and his wife “Abby” have lived in Northwood for over 57 years where they started their married life together, raised their four children, and where they’ve watched their many grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. Please come meet Buddy and learn more about him on May 29th at 7:00 p.m.

The Book Club will not meet during May. The next date is June 19 when members will discuss Jenny Wingfield’s The Homecoming of Samuel Lake. The Moses family gathers every summer for a reunion, but this year as the reunion begins, tragedy strikes, and the family is jolted to their core and the stage is set fora summer of crisis and profound change. (Blurb on book cover. Award-winning author Gerard Webster says, “Wingfield’s characters are as deep as a well–and as refreshing as a cool drink from it. The plot’s twists and eddies carry you along their strong current to its dramatic conclusion. Wingfield knows how to keep the suspense as tight as a fishing line–giving a little play of humor to relieve the tension before hauling back on the line again. And her writing style is original and fresh with Southern homespun phrasing. The Homecoming of Samuel Lake was a verbal feast for the senses. This might be Jenny Wingfield’s first novel; but I fervently hope it’s not her last. Highly recommended!” Anyone who would like to join in the discussion is invited to drop by the library and pick up a copy of the book.
